Gregory Crowley, president of Crowley Engineering Group LLC, is photographed with the BigBelly Solar Compactors. The solar trash receptacles, which gather solar energy to power batteries that operate the compactor, were used at several local festivals this summer.

"The key to the units is cost savings. They compact trash based on solar power, can hold five times the capacity of a regular trash can, which means they use fewer bags and the truck is on the road a good deal less. With gas costs, the savings can be substantial."
