Parks and Beaches
"The machines are working magnificently. Normally we would be emptying the cans twice a day, but we empty the BigBellies once a week. They are better than advertised." - Jim Burkhardt, Regional Manager, Cincinnati Parks Department
High visitor volume often causes waste levels to exceed receptacle capacity. As a result, facility personnel spend a lot of time and collecting waste and picking up litter. Otherwise, overflowing trash receptacles and unsightly litter can prevent visitors from coming back—especially in areas that rely on beautiful scenery and a relaxing environment to attract guests.
BigBelly helps solve this problem by using the sun's energy to automatically compact trash at the point of disposal. It increases capacity to 5x that of a conventional trash receptacle within the same footprint. In addition to reducing the frequency and costs of waste collection by 80%, BigBelly eliminates waste overflow from compromising the quality of the recreation area.
BigBelly's enclosed design helps keep critters away. While park visitors are repulsed by large volumes of litter, animals gravitate toward open top waste receptacles in hopes of finding food. They bring with them unwelcome odor, disease and territorial aggression. An animal latch is an available option which provides further protection against bears and raccoons.
To reduce the number of beach closings, the City of Chicago placed BigBellies at several beach locations to keep birds from feeding on the overflowing trash and generating high levels of E. Coli. Other customers have relied on BigBelly's enclosed design to keep wind blown trash out of rivers, lakes and ocean.
By holding 5x the waste of a conventional receptacle in an enclosed container, the BigBelly waste management system keeps litter in, animals out, and guests happy.
