BigBelly Solar Doubles Revenues
Waste & recycling solutions company continues to grow as its customers save
NEWTON, Mass. – BigBelly Solar, Inc., the world’s first waste & recycling collection systems company that integrates renewable power and information technology to dramatically lower the operating costs, fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the waste collection process, today announced 2010 results. The company has consistently grown each year since its founding in 2003, and doubled revenues in 2010 with more than 50 percent of sales represented by satisfied repeat customers looking to expand their budget savings, operational responsiveness and positive environmental impact.

More than half of the solar compactors purchased during the year were paired with complementary recycling capabilities. Demand for the CLEAN wireless software solution rose even more dramatically on a year-over-year basis, with over one-third of new customer deployments capitalizing on the benefits of the on-demand monitoring and operations planning capabilities, a percentage that is expected to continue to grow rapidly. The sum of these capabilities consistently generated powerful customer financial benefits, including the potential for immediate positive operating cash flow through leasing arrangements, as well as multiple environmental and public health benefits.”
With over 750 customers in nearly every state and 30 countries, BigBelly Solar now has more than 9,000 solar compactor and recycling units deployed in the service of municipalities, universities, park systems and other institutions that are focused on becoming greener, cleaner and more efficient. In supporting these customers, BigBelly Solar increased its internal staff by 30 percent in 2010. The company manufactures its products in the USA, with an upstream manufacturing and supply chain network employing approximately 250 further skilled workers.
